Cindy Sheehan's son died in Iraq, in the military. She wanted to speak to Bush about this, as mothers of dead soldiers have asked to speak with presidents for more than 200 years.

Bush, who is on vacation, said no.

She decided to wait him out -- in Crawford, Texas. In the hot sun by the side of the road. Since last Saturday.

Cindy says she'll stay there all month if necessary, until she meets him face to face. However if she and the others with her don't leave by Thursday, they'll be arrested as they will be considered threats to national security.

Secret Service officers are reported to be telling her and the other protesters that if they come up on the road they "may be hit by Secret Service vehicles.". Aren't there laws in Texas about threatening vehicular homicide? Or are Secret Service officers immune from prosecution by local laws? I hadn't thought we'd gone that far down the road toward establishing a Praetorian Guard. Or, is it possible that these are more Republican National Committee goons impersonating Secret Service officers, as happened in Denver when three people were kicked out of a Bush speech by fake SS officers?

a friend of mine [livejournal.com profile] jtkauff posted this.

So, lately I've gotten into Doomtown, the CCG based on the Deadlands universe. One of the local stores was clearancing it out, so I'd buy boxes of starters, keep one, and sell the rest on eBay. Pretty much paid for itself, a nice self-sustaining hobby. Out of curiousity one day, I asked what the store wanted for all of its singles. Didn't know how many they had - figured perhaps a few 5000-count boxes worth.

Well, now I know exactly how much they have. Or, had. That would be because I bought it all.

I went in today to take a look at it - the woman there took me into the back room and pointed to some boxes in the corner. Said that there were also binders. So, we looked at the binders, and I pondered a bit. Definitely seemed a bit slim compared to what they were asking for it (Doomtown is a dead game, no longer being produced, so it doesn't have a huge amount of value, but sells well to the right people). I went back and looked at the boxes more. Then she pulled away a rack that was hiding some. There were something like 18 boxes. Then, as I was looking at the binders, I saw another 7 boxes.

Those are 5000-count boxes folks. Some were 4000-count, but most were 5k.

Plus the cards in the binders.

Plus all of their unopened packs, decks, and boxes.

I now own somewhere in the vicinity of 125,000 Doomtown cards. And that's a conservative estimate.

The van is not happy about this, as it is all sitting in the back of it. And needless to say, I'm eBaying most of it, and will likely make back what I paid 3x over. Plus I'll have all of the Doomtown I could ever want.

Should be interesting, to say the least...

Secret Service officers probably are immune from prosecution by any law except federal, or perhaps even the UCMJ, or maybe even some arcane, mostly unknown body of statutes written explicitly for them which probably says something like "They can do whatever they want", while on duty.

Georgie needs some remedial reading

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free expression thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
(emphasis mine)

This is just a little ol' thang known colloquially as the First Amendment. Maybe Mr. Bush should take a look at it sometime. The others are pretty interesing, too. Such as the Fifth Amendment, which has some fascinating things to say about Search & Seizure, Right to Due Process, and Protection from unjust persecution.

I don't hate America.

I love America.

I hate FEAR my President for what he is doing to America. He is turning this great country into a fascist state not unlike Nazi Germany.

So I guess you could say that I hate George W. Bush's idea of America.
