On the topic of intelligent conservatives....

flemco was looking for intelligent conservatives to read. While I don't see a livejournal account for this guy[1], and I really can't recommend spending much time on the website he's posting to, I give you Ichneumon

He's posting on Free Republic and he's an educated person, meaning he apparently spends most of his time debunking scientific fallacies and educating the ignorant - but he's pretty damn good at that, and he's got some sensible, reasoned opinions on other issues in there.

Take a look. While you're at it, take a look at the people he's responding to and consider how bloody rare an intelligent, intellectually honest American who holds conservative positions really is.

I have a quite a few intelligent American conservatives on my friends list, and I know quite a few who aren't on my friendslist. They're not that hard to find.

Really? Once who can logically defend their positions? While not assuming that the plural of "anecdote" is "data"?

Ones who don't just ignore the facts when they're inconvenient, or take a position that things only happen to those who deserve them?

Yup, they're real-life intelligent logical conservatives. It may be hard for some people to believe, but they're out there, and actually, there's quite a lot of them. It's just the blind patriots and the Bible-thumpers that get all the press. People aren't interested in logical defense of positions - that doesn't make for good entertainment, so no one ever pays attention to them.
