The pastor explains that for years he has warned people that unless Christians in New Orleans took a strong stand against such things as local abortion clinics, the yearly Mardi Gras celebrations, and the annual event known as "Southern Decadence" -- an annual six-day "gay pride" event scheduled to be hosted by the city this week -- God's judgment would be felt.

"New Orleans now is abortion free. New Orleans now is Mardi Gras free. New Orleans now is free of Southern Decadence and the sodomites, the witchcraft workers, false religion -- it's free of all of those things now," Shanks says. "God simply, I believe, in His mercy purged all of that stuff out of there -- and now we're going to start over again."

I've seen similar sentiments posted on two forums I frequent Fortunately for my tenuous faith in humanity, they've been promptly banned from said forums.

That's simple, they don't really believe that said deity is benificent—except maybe to them.

(Of course, as a tree-hugging dirt worshipper I don't necessarily believe that deity is benificent either. The difference is that I don't consider this some sort of moral mandate. Human beings have a choice not to be shitheads, and I'm just annoyed that the shitheads seem to get all the airtime.)

Well, the papist bastards believe that the pope -- the antichrist himself -- should lead the church. How can you call that Christian? And thou shalt not revere graven images, and what are saints if not graven images? Men and women put on a pedestal by the worldly power of the Antichrist and declared to be godly -- while everyone who reads the bible knows that there is but one god. Or maybe three.
