Man convicted of rape and murder of child is appealing on the grounds that the pathologist imagined the evidence of penetration and didn't know that blood pools in the body after death (and hence called that "massive bruising") .

This is apparently not uncommon for this particular pathologist, who has resigned his position and whose involvement in other cases is being investigated.
