How many Short Bus Texans missed the bit in the first amendment about separation of church and state?

A pile!

So, abortion is still legal, right? Even though you can afford one, have a doctor and a clinic lined up, and are still legally prevented from getting one?

Wow.

I mean, the inherent hypocracy in some of those statements, not to mention the logical and factual errors...

Normally I'd be less vehement, but I'm drunk and hungry and this kinda shit makes my blood boil:

Don't you fucking blame Texas for Bush and his Christian agenda. It's not our goddamned fault.

Those of us in the technologically and socially modern cities of Houston, Dallas and Austin are blue as blue can get. No red here. We have gay sides of town, support the right to choice and vote against faith-based subsidation.

The problem is that Texas is the biggest fucking state in the nation, and there's a whole lotta red between the blue spots. And whereas Dallas is the hottest metropolis I've seen IN THE NATION, with a downright decadent nightlife and an almost Valhallah-style quality of life on every front, we've got an awful lot of hicks out in the sticks. They have farms from Hell to breakfast, and they outnumber those of us with running water and tele-o-phones.

Bush isn't fucking FROM Texas. That little bitch grew up in CONNECTICUT. He was oted into the governor's office by a SLIM margin, and fucked this state up all over the goddamned place while he was in power. Bush is not a Texan any more than Arnold Schwartzenegger is.

A pile? Fuck that noise. That group should come to Dallas, where we would righteously paint them yellow (literally) and ride them out of fucking town on a flaming rail. They're fucking retards, and as your second link shows, every state has a flock of "christian-minded" apes who'll protest anything the By-Bull states.

I love Texas - spent all of my adult life here, and never leaving. The easiest way to chap my hide is to paint this place as a pure breeding ground for human stupidity.

I can, right this very minute, get in my non-SUV and drive down to Oak Lawn, a little slice of San Francisco that somehow ended up here. While there I can burn a bible in the street and hang out with thousands of homosexuals. Then I can go eat a two-inch-thick steak at a local churrascaria before dancing the night away at my favorite blues bars. The only thing I'll have to look out for is insane drivers, of which there's no short supply. I can freely wear a t-shirt that shows Bush's face with the words GLOBAL TERRORIST on the front, scream at fundies and publicly worship the devil in this town with NO fear of recrimination. Can you, the various people reading this, state the same?

We have a ton of churches, this is true. But, per capita, we have more strip clubs than any other state in the nation. That tell you something, America?

Stop making TX out as the Retard state.

Hey, man, I wasn't blaming Texas for having stupid people doing stupid things. I was blaming stupid people for doing stupid things, and the stupid people are, in this case, from Texas.

If you do the painting-and-riding thing, take pictures, will you?

This motion is being put to a referendum so you still have the seperation of church and state. What you can not do when putting things to the general population is tell them not to look at certain factors when voting.

"The Bible is very clear—homosexuality is an abomination, and I do think homosexual marriage should be illegal. This is not just my opinion. This is God’s opinion."

"I have absolutely nothing against the homosexuals; what I am against is their way of life. It’s not the person, it’s the sin."

"No man is perfect except for Jesus who died on the cross. He taught us to love people, so we love people, but, simply put, we do not tolerate or stand for the homosexual lifestyle."

"TO: Then do you believe in the separation of church and state?

AW: I do not want to go there. I do not want to answer that question because it’s too controversial, and my answer can be taken in too many different ways. I am not going to answer that question."

"TO: Is prejudice against homosexuals similar to racism?

NR: No. I don’t think being born a Hispanic is a sin. Nowhere in the Bible do I see 'Thou shalt not be an Afro-American, thou shalt not be Asian.' I think this is entirely different."

================

No, they're pretty clearly looking to make law based on religion, with no justification beyond religion, for the purpose of ensuring that the tenets of their religion are legally enforced on people who don't share it. That's the textbook definition of "violation of the separation of church and state", as well as "establishment of religion".

No they're not. They are clearly expressing an opinion on a piece of legislation that is being proposed and will be on the ballot in a referendum based on their religious views.

A piece of legislation based purely on their fundi religious fanaticism. Not on any other fact.

... a piece of legislation that is religion-motivated and religious in nature.

A piece of legislation that they support *based on the idea that their religion should be law for everyone*, no other reason.

A piece of legislation that clearly violates the separation of church and state, and that they support anyway because *they* don't believe in separation of church and state.

Which was my point.

It'd be amusing to watch the Texas State Constitution get thrown out in court, though.

(Trivia: Even without this, the Texas State Constitution is, itself, unconstitutional according to the US Constitution. In Texas, non-Christians are prohibited from holding public office, which violates the US constitution.)
