I appreciated the winter article. although ohio gets cold at times I've never had to go to work in temperatures below -10.

what is this a toque?

A toque, pronounced "toook", is a hat. A warm hat that fits your head snugly. Traditionally made of wool, can be cerried in a pocket, fits over your ears.

Or click here (http://www.bigskyknitting.com/chemotoque.html), for the same hat style meant for chemo patients, not winter wear.

Why don't you call it a hat.

Like the rest of the world.

Does the severe cold inhibit your vocabulary?

There are many varieties of hats. It's important to always know what you're looking for, because an Ottawa *summer* requires a hat, too - and if you use one of these, you'll die of heatstroke.

"Hat" is not specific enough. You need this one particular kind of hat, or you die.

It actually builds vocabulary, my good man. Hat is a general term, whereas toque is a specific term. Unless you'd like to wear this fetching number in a blizzard...

-- Steve's wondering why we bother much with specific nouns... let's just use "thing" for everything, huh?

Wouldn't using "Thing" encourage a bettering of the gene pool by killing off those not bright enough to know what to wear?

Not really, and besides the price is too high. I like my things to be specific things, not general things. Things are much clearer that way. Like, y'know, things and stuff.

the price for whom? people who don't know that some thing is better the some other thing to cover their thing in the stuff?

Use one of the big things to clear their things from the place if they start to pile up.

The "Gobblet of Fire" combo is known out here as "Dragon's Blood". It is what I see many people in the SCA who have a cold drink itt the night before they are to go out and fight. Apparently it kills the cold - as well as a tenth of yer brain cells. :P

You missed the cool toques with the ear flaps (ski variety). Very warm and stylish....
