I hope that the adage, "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas," is true. They can keep the cold. (I wonder what the odds were on Vegas having colder weather than Canada?)

-- Steve's thinking that the casino-dwellers will hardly notice, and that everybody else can just tap off their waste heat. See? Win-win.

So, this Apophis is just as evil as the one from Stargate.

Yes, but it is a hard or soft -17, and does Las Vegas hit on it?

Um, read the article again.

That's Las Vegas *New Mexico*, which is at a much higher altitude (7000 feet or so) than Las Vegas, NV (2000 feet), is just east of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and so regularly has much colder winters than Sin City. As it turned out (from the Weather Underground website, which displays NOAA weather statistics), Las Vegas NV had a low of 35F (1 C), and Las Vegas NM had a low of 3F (-15C), not -17.

There's a Las Vegas in New Mexico? I just assumed that was the writer and editor missing something during a rewrite.

Incidentally, Las Vegas NM is several decades older that Las Vegas NV. It's an old railroad town on one of the Santa Fe mainlines, and is a college town (NM Highlands University). My stepson went to college there briefly.
