Devo is set to revamp their image for a younger generation with a new project..

A new generation of music fans will get hip to one of new wave's most iconic acts through Devo 2.0.

For the project, all five members of Devo regrouped to re-record some of its best known songs, including the 1980 hit "Whip It!" with vocals provided by a quintet of kids. Also included will be "Cyclops" and "The Winner," the first new studio tracks from Devo in nearly two decades.

The "Devo 2.0" CD is due March 17 via Disney Sound. A companion DVD will feature animated and live action videos for each of the tracks directed by Devo bassist and co-founder Gerry Casale.

Disney. Creating a band of kids that, is covers the right word? Anyway I'll say covers Devo. One of the founders of the East Coast punk music scene. Now working with Kid Disney...

The mind boggles.

Seriously I can't decide whether that video was amazingly awesome or terrifingly horrible...

Little kids singing (what was) a revolutionarily weird song about masturbation. Priceless.

I think a part of me has died.

If the kids are actually playing their instruments then that's OK. If not then it's just Kidsbop and mark's retirement check.

You gotta know that the Devo guys are laughing all the way to the bank on this one, AND they get the bonus of knowing that Disney is paying them piles and just doesn't get it.

I never thought heads could explode in slow-motion.

At least they don't have those suits...

Ummmm--that's just wrong. At least the lead "singer" actually had the idea that the song just might be about whips...and other things.

It's a beautiful world we live in...

If those kids weren't actually playing the instruments, they were doing a damn fine job of mime. Check out the drummer especially--when you hear the high hat he's hitting the high hat, when you hear the toms he's hitting the toms, etc. And the little girl on the keyboard may look like she's only using two fingers, but she's using them in the right places at the right time (the keyboard part of "Whip It" is not particularly challenging).

Devo has always been a subversive, tounge-in-cheek organization. This development, while unexpected, is not out of character for them. I don't know whether to put my face in my hands and weep or stand and applaud.

(I could do both...OW! OW! OW! OH, MOTHER! THE PAIN!)

Also notice how little time they spend showing the drummer and the bassist compared to the other three, and how much older those two look when they *are* shown. They've got adults, or at least late teenagers, playing the more complicated parts.
