I'm disappointed that the proposed flash drives would only result in a 10 to 20% weight reduction and only a 30% increase in speed.

The important thing about flash drives is that the storage is physically shockproof; dropping the player is much less likely to damage storage, though the case can still be damaged. That's the iPod Nano's (and the Shuffle's, and several other MP3 brands) main selling point over larger, disk based MP3 players--toughness. Similarly, the new laptop will be tougher than disk based laptop PCs.

Considering the number of harddrive replacements we have to do for <1yr laptops at work, this sounds like a Good Thing to me.
