A story April 20 referred to the stories of the Tuskegee Airmen from 1941-1946 in Tuskegee, Ala., as the Tuskegee Experiment. The article should have clarified that another Tuskegee experiment took place from 1932-1972 in Tuskegee, Ala., in which the federal government sponsored a study that examined the impact of syphilis among black men. The government withheld medical treatment from 399 men with syphilis, who were not told they had the disease.
