As a followup to the War Memorial story from Monday, I present this from the Halifax Daily News' Michael DeAdder, which about sums it up for me, too.

I hope that they publish the names of the involved parties, when they find them.

Yeah, but I hope everyone then has enough restraint to just humiliate and/or shame them (rather than doing something drastic), since that's what the soldiers were fighting *against*.

I just hope that they're employed by someone who doesn't find their little stunt amusing. I hope that at the very least, they lose their job and a lot of their friends.

That being said, all of my co-workers in the Canadian Forces would love to sit down and have a chance to re-educate the involved parties.

Cleaning the memorial with their tongues would make me happy.

If not that, then with sponges, if they must.

Tongues would be appropriate.

Two of the three are minors. Power-washing the monument plus community service for veteran groups and a few hundred hours of education (in the form of first person accounts of the war efforts) would be appropriate. A public "stoning" by over-heated advocates and hooligans looking for a target, is not appropriate. Take care of what you wish for.
