Iraq is asking the UN to end the principle of immunity from local law as it is applied to US troope in Iraq, after five more Army soldiers are being "investigated" for raping and murdering local civilians.

Since, in every previous case of rape, torture, and murder documented and on-camera, the US has either done nothing or given a token punishment to an obvious scapegoat, the Iraqis are understandably pissed.

Apparently the guy accused of raping and murdering the 15-year-old girl and murdering her entire family was diagnosed with a personality disorder. He wasn't sent home because the military is so desperate for bodies. Personally, I think that he (and his cohorts) shouldn't be the only ones punished. This thing goes right up to the chickenhawks in Congress and every last one of them should go to jail.

No, Steven Green was honorably discharged; apparently that's what a personality disorder gets you if your discharge comes before they've found out you allegedly rape children and murder families.

(If you're talking about one of the other four being charged, or the one who's charged with dereliction of duty for not reporting it, reference? I can't even find their names, let alone anything mentioning a diagnosis of a personality disorder.)

Also, Reuters claims that her identity card and the copy of her death certificate that they got show she was 14. I'd been hearing the 15-year-old figure too, though; apparently
Court documents described the raped daughter as an "adult female" and estimated her age as 25. U.S. military officials in Iraq say their documents have her as 20. Local officials and relatives had said she was 15 or 16.

Her identity card and a copy of her death certificate obtained by Reuters, however, show she was 14.
The Reuters story does make a point that they can't get independant verification of the documents.

I had heard that about the conflicting stories about the victim being an adult according to the U.S. military and a child according to the Iraqi government and witnesses. It's pretty disgusting, but I guess I can understand wanting to cover up her youth, which makes a horrible crime even more appalling, even unthinkable.

I have actually heard conflicting stories on whether he was diagnosed before he was discharged, but I believe they diagnosed him before the rape and murder but waited to discharge him until later. I mean, how do you not notice that someone has a personality disorder if you're doing psychological testing? I guess we'll see as more facts come out.

Interesting. Any reference on the stories about him not being diagnosed before he was discharged? I mean, I'm perfectly willing to wait until more facts come out, but I'm still going to be sceptical about giving credence to anything that doesn't have a source.
