Anti-immigrant protestor slideshow - check out Slide #8, where they're cheering the Confederate flag. In others, they're making Nazi salutes.

Fred, like always, concisely points out why Confederate flags and Nazi salutes are not just racist, they're pretty much diametrically opposed to being American, being symbols of two powers that fought AGAINST the USA in war, for racist reasons, and lost.

Somehow, I doubt the "counterprotestors" can spell irony, let alone recognise it.

I'll take issue with his history over the confederacy, something I know more about than most.

I don't think the battle flag was a racist symbol. That is used by racists is undoubtedly true. But the British National Party uses the Jack as a symbol, and there are idiots over here who think that means we should stop using it.

Lots of brave men fought under that flag for an idea; they fought for a different interpretation of a constitution, one that differed from Lincoln's, but wasn't an unknown interpretation even int he north. Scott's division plan would've made much more sense.

They may have believed in slaveholding, but they fought for states rights as opposed to an overmighty centre.

There aren't any nazi salutes in any of those slides, unless of course you are referring to the clench-fists in the air, which are not classed as nazi salutes.

Personally, I was impressed by the mullet on the guy in the background of picture #10.
