This is a very large cat.

That is a DVD (and an excellent one) placed beside him, for scale.

This picture is not retouched or edited.

I just felt the need to share.

Patients Die After Getting Rabies-Infected Organs

Three U.S. transplant patients died after receiving organs from a donor who was infected with rabies, the first time the disease has been spread via transplanted organs, U.S. officials said on Thursday.

The victims received organs from an Arkansas man on May 4, 2004, in separate operations at hospitals in Texas and Oklahoma, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

A fourth person who received two lungs from the same donor died during the transplant operation in Alabama.

U.S. officials said the infections went undetected because the donor had shown no signs of rabies at the time of his death from a brain hemorrhage in Texas. U.S. hospitals also do not routinely screen for rabies prior to organ transplants.

Come Thursday, Virginia businesses are scheduled to fall back under the regulation of "blue laws" that originally were set aside in the 1980s.

Under those laws, employers couldn't force employees to work on Sundays, and non-management workers would be required to take one day off a week, according to the state Chamber of Commerce.

The problem came about because state legislators attempting finally to remove the old laws from the books goofed, only completing half the job. They left the actual laws, but repealed later amendments that nullified the law and others that listed businesses and government agencies that were exempt.

State Sen. Fred Quayle, R-Chesapeake, sponsored the clean-up bill. Now chamber officials are scrambling to let businesses know what will happen, although they have hope that Gov. Mark Warner will figure out a way out by Thursday.

State chamber officials realized only last week that Quayle's bill was flawed.

Quayle did not return phone calls.

Lone woman riding through Chernobyl's footprint a hoax, apparently

e-POSHTA subscriber Mary Mycio writes:

I am based in Kyiv and writing a book about Chornobyl for the Joseph Henry Press. Several sources have sent me links to the "Ghost Town" photo essay included in the last e-POSHTA mailing. Though it was full of factual errors, I did find the notion of lone young woman riding her motorcycle through the evacuated Zone of Alienation to be intriguing and asked about it when I visited there two days ago.

I am sorry to report that much of Elena's story is not true. She did not travel around the zone by herself on a motorcycle. Motorcycles are banned in the zone, as is wandering around alone, without an escort from the zone administration. She made one trip there with her husband and a friend. They traveled in a Chornobyl car that picked them up in Kyiv.

She did, however, bring a motorcycle helmet. They organized their trip through a Kyiv travel agency and the administration of the Chornobyl zone (and not her father). They were given the same standard excursion that most Chernobyl tourists receive. When the Web site appeared, Zone Administration personnel were in an uproar over who approved a motorcycle trip in the zone. When it turned out that the motorcycle story was an invention, they were even less pleased about this fantasy Web site.

Because of those problems, Elena and her husband have changed the Web site and the story considerably in the last few days. Earlier versions of the narrative lied more blatantly about Elena taking lone motorcycle trips in the zone. That has been changed to merely suggest that she does so, which is still misleading.

I would not normally bother to correct someone's silly Chornobyl fantasy. Indeed, correcting all the factual errors and falsehoods in "Ghost Town" would consume as much space as the Web site itself. But the motorcycle story was such an outrageous fiction that I thought the readers of e-Poshta should know.

...but the results made me laugh, here. I'm married to the kittens, they're screwing Doc (eww, man), so I hop into bed with the Russian model to get even, Maggie is competing with me for Maria's attention, and the dead guy is going to try to murder me.

Hey, it's more interesting than my life currently, the side efects appear to be pretty sweet, and I've got a pretty good chance of making it out alive. Bring it on.
