A brief political comment.
Aug. 9th, 2006 09:12 amIn a race I wasn't watching[1], Joe Lieberman's campaign website went down and he complained that it was the victim of a DOS attack by horrid left-wing bloggers.
And the media reported it straight, as that - DOS attack.
The site is pingable.
The site is responding in 0.3 seconds to requests on port 80.
Other sites on the same machine are working just fine.
No, the problem is that Joe Lieberman DIDN'T PAY HIS BILL and his site is down because he hasn't paid the hosting company.
Does NOBODY check facts? It takes 15 seconds to confirm that Lieberman is LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH, AGAIN. Why did NOT ONE media outlet that thought this was a story worth covering do that check?
Take a look for yourself, at joe2006.com
Remember, you can't spell "Lieberman" without "Lie".
[1]: This was brought to my attention in a friendslocked post. I'm not even going to say by whom, unless that person feels like telling the world.

Gelatin "Shots" as a New Method for Alcohol Administration in a Laboratory Setting
Background: This experiment was designed to compare gelatin "shots"—a new procedure for administering alcohol in a laboratory setting—to the alcohol beverage method. We proceeded to test whether the two methods were comparable in terms of alcohol absorption, metabolism, and effects on mood and whether gelatin "shots" were better than the beverage in disguising alcohol in a blind, placebo comparison.

Aug. 9th, 2006 02:28 pmA Brazilian man died on Tuesday when he tried to open what police believe was a rocket-propelled grenade with a sledgehammer in a mechanical workshop on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.
Another man who was in the workshop at the time of the explosion was rushed to a hospital with severe burns, a police officer told Reuters. The workshop was destroyed and several cars parked outside caught fire.
Police found several unexploded army issue rocket-propelled grenades in the workshop. They believe the ammunition had been brought there by scavengers wanting to sell them as scrap metal, but they also are investigating a possible link to Rio's heavily armed drug gangs who often raid military bases.

And some of it is deeply creepy. Check out user 927.
