Google's AlphaGo program has been granted an honorary 9th dan Go grandmaster rank - the first honorary professional rank, ever.

(Normally to get a professional rank you must participate in tournaments. Deepmind beats 9th dan grandmasters; it would be frankly unfair to stick it in first dan qualifying tournaments, or anything else on the way up to earn a "real" professional rank.)

Great legal precedents.

From United States v. Ragin, American 4th Circuit Court of Appeals: If your lawyer slept through the trial, you don't have to prove that his being awake would have mattered, you just have to prove he was asleep and the courts will assume that an unconscious counsel was probably not an effective one.
