Special-effects trailer for Eragon.

77MB Hi-def version available here

I know nothing about this movie other than that it involves dragons and swords and heroes and Jeremy Irons, which is a combination with a *terrible* track record, but the effects are PRETTY.

An adolescent Mary-Sue novel, made into a movie. Well, at the very least, it'll certainly be nice eye candy.

Special effects trailer for Eye of Argon? I'm there.

YA fantasy, which I actually tend to find has better coherence than a lot of adult fantasy[1]. Author was 15 when he began writing it.

And the trailer does look stunningly pretty. I will catch it with you, if you are so moved.

[1] Not that type. Well, actually, maybe that type too. But that's not what I meant.

The writing is not *nearly* that bad.

It's still a little simplistic and heavy on the exposition, but I can browse it without getting a nosebleed.

Sadly I know where that link goes without clicking or even checking the address. And also sadly I paid 8 bucks to see it...

Could be worse. He could be Ben Kingsley or Jon Voigt, who I'm *certain* have pictures of them double-teaming a donkey running around somewhere. It's the only way to explain their recent movie choices.

(Either that, or they sold their souls for acclaim and talent, and now the devil is collecting. I can't figure out why he's punishing US, though.)

The book was incredibly badly written. The movie version actually looks considerably better.

I spent $4 on it. My excuse is that the campus gaming group thought it would be a fun group activity, and we got enough together for a group discount.

Well, I enjoyed the book. The style was simple, but I would not say badly-written at all.

Regardless, writing style doesn't make much of a difference in a movie, and I rather found the plot enchanting.

The author was 15 when he wrote Eragon, which I find astounding. The sequel shows distinct signs of maturation.

(In the interest of full disclosure, I feel I should mention that I enjoyed D&D; I thought it was a comedy/parody of actual D&D gameplay. Hardly anyone else I talked to considered it that, and it goes down in hostory as a failed fantasy rather than a successful comedy.)

I also notice John Malkovitch in the credits...

Interesting that there is no spoken dialogue in the credits. I hope they remembered to include the plot!

I love "The Dark is Rising" series by Susan Cooper. I read some of the YA books at the library now and again. Usually a bit juvenile, but often have some neat concepts.

All that expensive CG wasted on such bad fiction.

Plot? Who needs a plot? Why can't you look at the shiny like like all the other kids?

I was with a group of people on opening night, the cinema manager would let us in free if we showed up in costume. Which we did. But... well.
