A Good Samaritan taxi driver who allowed three people injured in a car accident to shelter from from the cold in his cab was left counting the cost - after emergency services destroyed the taxi to 'rescue' the trio.

Cabbie Peter Andersson, 45, from Lulea in central Sweden said: 'They had a few cuts and bruises and I let them shelter in my cab. They looked worse than they were.

'I went off to look at the wreck and when the firemen turned up, they pulled out hydraulic metal cutters and sliced the side off the cab.

'They said it meant they could get the people out without them having to bend too much, in case of neck injuries. They didn't realise they only had to open the door.'

However, Swedish news site The Local reports that Anders Sundelin, head doctor at Sunderby Sjukhus, said: 'Sawing off the roof to remove accident victims is the safest way to manage injuries of this kind.'

The taxi driver is now in dispute with his insurance company, who do not believe his story over the reason for the £30,000 repair bill.

"A taxi, not being demolished by over-eager Swedish firemen. This picture caption will now refrain from commenting further on the notion of Swedish firemen."

After checking local Swedish sources, it wasn't three injured people, but two. Also, Anders Sundelin mentions in a second article that one of the two had neck injuries, and that the decision to cut off the roof was fully justified, and very possibly saved the person from paralysis.

Since your links are not in English, they must naturally be made of nonsense and much less credible than The Metro's "weird news" section.

Dude. Map of Sweden. Follow the coastline, and tell me how Lule* is in "central" Sweden.

I used to live there.

#1: Not my copy.

#2: Central SCANDAHOOVIA. After all, it's in the middle of the big Finland/Sweden/Norway block, so that's LIKE being in the middle of Sweden.

In Scandahoovian parlance, central refers to southern-central-northern, except maybe for Denmark. (But Denmark is small enough that one doesn't need to specify further.) East-central-west is pretty much irrelevant.

...because it follows from which country you're in. Except perhaps the mild rivality between Stockholm and Gothenburg. "Coast" or "inland" is a much more culturally relevant distinction.

Unless you go to the 17th century, when East Denmark meant southern Sweden, and East Sweden meant Finland.

Or maybe we should refer to Boston as being in central North America?

Central America is somewhere else entirely.
