Telstra executives were scrambling last night to undo damage caused by a massive print advertising campaign that directed fans of Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan to a graphic gay porn website.

Teenagers following instructions from the ad and typing in www.caseydonovan.com, hoping to hear Donovan's single, were instead greeted by naked images of gay porn star Casey Donovan, who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1987.

Efforts by Telstra BigPond technicians to block access to the porn site failed.

The ad campaign was meant to be a triumph for Telstra, which paid $3million to sponsor Idol and release the song online exclusively.

First: Ha!

Second: "Efforts by Telestra BigPond technicians to block access to the porn site failed."

What?!

I suspect that's more a mistranslation of one of the markettroids than a statement that they really tried to take down or hijack the site.

Telstra is also one of the, if not the biggest ISP in australia. 3 gets you one that for Telstra customers, at least, this problem will be "solved" automatically.
