If I'm going to build a server soon with (at least the first bits of[1]) two hard drives mirrored together, which I hopefully am, would you recommend the mirrored system partitions to use lvm *and* raid, or just raid?
Secondary question: The partition which contains the /boot/grub and the other files necessary for the pre-kernel-load grub boot, can I load those into the OS as a mirrored set with impunity, even though when they're actually used (with either one or both drives operating) to boot from they're used as separate normal partitions?
[1] I expect 2x60=60 gigs to be more than enough for the actual system[2], the rest of the HDs can become raid 5 or JBOD samba stores, possibly via LVM.
[2] Which is not currently outgrowing the 30G HD it's on.
