I should just like, at this time, to register my displeasure at the 'loss' of the phrase 'nice guy' to the English Language.

I like to think of myself as a Nice Guy. Considerate, helpful, cheerful, always willing to lend a hand, kind to animals and children.

But I can't call myself that any more, because now it means 'spineless wanker who thinks making a doormat of himself will get him laid, and when it doesn't, goes off on a wild ride of misogynistic ranting in which his real feelings about women are given full vent'.

It's political correctness gone mad, or something.

It's entirely possible to be a nice guy. The problem is that the Nice Guy, who takes his descriptor from the telltale twin mating cries of "I'm a Nice Guy!" and "Women only like assholes!", is not a nice guy.

i loved this and was very sad that i could not post in the "private posting" area. if you don't already subscribe to http://www.hbi.com , you probably should. my opinion: everyone is entitled to their opinion. people can shout what they think all over the internet. as a human being, i am entitled to completely ignore them. i have watched my mother "yes" my father for YEARS. my dad is a racist, sexist old bastard, but since i was mostly raised by my mom, I inherited her attitudes and can safely "yes" this entire segment of the population until they are replaced by the upcoming generation.

Agreed.

Especially since the word "nice" has negative connotations in and of itself. And, ooh, if someone calls you nice in the American South, you've just been given the kiss of death.
