That right there is evolution in action.

That put a nice warm feeling in someplace squishy in me.

Darwinism perhaps, but not evolution ;)

Depends on your point of view. Part of evolution is weaker instances of the breed dying off and not carrying on the gene. I'd say this is a fine example of the rest of hte species evolving due to some very clever pruning.

The unsuited-for-survival types already bred, though, and their child has the potential to breed further.

Right, but the breeding hardly counts as viable if you and your children are killed before it can spread to the rest of the gene pool.

But the child still is in the gene pool.

Not *both* children, but one of them.

True. The father's out, which is 50% better. And on the bright side, the child in the gene pool is the cool one who snapped. That'll at least be exciting. But at the very best is puts the marching moron theory at a zero sum for one family, which isn't much to write home about.

I always recommend curling irons for that.

(What? It's easier than going through news stories.)

Darwin-award worthy moments. Though I wish the conditions of the sister and mother were reversed, as it would appear that the sister did no wrong.

She was 24 when she was denied treatment because of her parents' beliefs. What? I can't make that make sense.

Except religion isn't genetic, it's learned. So this is more a "survival of the fittest" thing. Semantics aside, it was only a matter of time.

I like having "snappers" in the gene pool.

Keeps things interesting.
