He then suggested 9/11 would have been less tragic had we bombed Trade Center before it fell.

Pausing to add the Newark and Washington Dulles airports as well, to, you know, cut the supply line of terrorists.

OH. My. God. Seriously, I wish the man would at some point take like two seconds to think before he opens his mouth! Thats one of the stupidest things I've ever heard... if Will Smith can get into as much trouble as he did with his comment about Hitler that got taken out of context you'd think Bush would get into alot of trouble for that comment. I mean seriously if bombing it would have stopped the genocide then maybe it would have been an option instead bombing it would have been like telling Hitler "no really that gas thing your doing, its too slow and humane, watch as we shower the area with bombs and kill everyone at once. sure some of them will die quickly but alot of them will sustain sever wounds which you won't treat and will die slowly of infection. Now thats how you kill off a people!"
I am thrilled its an election year, we may not actually get someone who's going to make great changes but we may at least get someone who's not a flaming idiot!
Sorry for the rant on your page, I've had a lot of coffee and that pissed me off.

Actually, having read the accounts of people who were in the camps, many of them had hoped that we WOULD bomb the camps, and felt betrayed that we didn't.

Yes, the inmates in the camp at the time would have died along with the staff, but camps like Auschwitz were killing machines with a high turnover as new inmates were brought in and gassed.

Bombing Auschwitz would have killed a couple of thousand, but it would have saved hundreds of thousands.

The real question here is: "just how stopped does a clock has to be, before its license to tell the correct time twice a day is revoked?"

Oh he fucking didn't.

I mean, he did. But he... oh, please tell me he didn't.

(I am aware of the bombing debate. I hope that perhaps people will understand if I say that I am slightly sceptical with regards to Mr. Bush's awareness of same.)

for starters wikipedia is should only be used to get a generalized idea of any concept not for debat fodder as the site is riddled with inaccuracies...
however I tend to agree that there is no way that bombing the camps would have stopped Hitler or even slowed him down. Possibly if he had to pull from his own labor pool or finaces but he wasn't, the Jews taken to the camps where the ones forced to build the camps and the valuables (including gold fillings from their teeth) helped pay for it all, in that instance bombing wouldn't have accomplished anything other than contributing to the slaughter. Also for the most part if was a global decision at the time, America didn't decide not to bomb the Allied forces decided that there had to be another way. At that time, hell even in this day with that horrible example, people have a really hard time accepting that that kind of thing could happen especially on that kind of a scale we put up mental blocks to it and do everything we can to convince ourselves its not as many as the reports say.
History is biased and hindsight is 20/20, maybe if Bush had made a comment that we should have joined in the Allied effort from the start instead of waiting till it literally hit home I could respect that, us joining two years earlier might have ended the war sooner saving many, many lives. What he instead said was that we should have bombed the thousands of innocent people being held captive to show that we won't stand for the killing of thousands of innocent people, knowing what we know now its a stupid heartless thing to say.

the U.S. should have bombed Auschwitz to halt the killing

Somebody's a bit unclear on the concept, I think. Sigh.

I don't know. The article makes it seem as though the issue of bombing the camp, or more often the rails leading to it, has been an oft-debated one. The tone among the various Jewish groups seems supportive of Bush's statements, and Rice's clarifications.

"Bomb!"
The real estate crisis?
"Bomb?"
War inflation?
"BOMB!"
