The dumbasses were in the Bahamas (and had been doing it there since 2003) because they'd been thwacked in some legal fashion for doing this in "the state's waters" five years earleir.

Tiger sharks, bull sharks and hammerhead sharks. I think that's three of the top five "ZOMG DO NOT SWIM WITH" sharks on the planet, #1 being the infamous great white, and I don't know which one is #5.

The amount of stupidity involved here hurts.

Florida company, Florida boat, they only go to the Bahamas because Florida made it illegal to do what they're doing, on the grounds that somebody is going to be eaten by a shark.

He was 49. I haven't been able to find out whether he had any children. (I found the local paper that the AP version seems to be a trimmed-down version of, which didn't mention surviving family, and umpty-zillion copies of the AP story.) So ... I can't tell whether he gets a Darwin award or not. I'm guessing he does get it, since some reporter probably would've contacted his family for their reactions, if he had a spouse and/or kids.

Florida can't ban someone from getting a boat just because they are dumbass operaters. They banned them from operating in the state. That would be good enough if you weren't trying to beat a dead horse.

The Bahamas are the ones that were letting them get away with doing it.
