You know, I have always seen the close up shot of that, and never realized that the tanks had four lanes on EITHER side they could have used to just go around the man. I think- perhaps it says something that they all lined up, and didn't just split into two or three columns to go around.

They eventually did go around him. But they were travelling in a line, and he ran in front of them.

Is it wrong that my first thought on seeing this again was, "Y'know, the pedestrians in Baltimore are just like that."

I remember seeing this on the news. They tried to go around him. He kept standing in the way to try and prevent them from interfering with the other protesters.

No. You can find video of it around. He's eventually hussled away by some other people.

Cool/strange thing: To this day, no one has any idea who that guy is/was or what happened to him afterwards.

Yeah- but if they'd Split the column, he couldn't have stood in front of TWO columns of tanks, right?

I was eight. My father stood me in front of the television to watch the news footage. He told me "This is important. Don't forget that you saw this. Don't forget that you were watching this."

It's the very first world event I remember being aware of.

Worse, very few Chinese under 30 recognize that picture.
