Acceptable.

Also, *fan-gasm*

Also--movie? Wait, did someone tell me about that?

Depends what they mean by 'movie' - the Hogfather was described as a movie too, though whether it 'counted' as one is arguable.

Iron's definitely fits for it, I just really don't think David Jason fits as Rincewind.

It's not really a movie, it's a TV adaption made by a UK cable TV company. They also made the Hogfather, which wasn't really any good, so I'm not too hopeful about this one.

It's kind of hard to get all the funny footnotes in a TV programme after all...

...yes, yes that is rather appropriate.

(Although the entire Vetinari persona was not completely defined in The Colour of Magic, if I recally correctly, and he was more the stereotypical evil patriarch. So one hopes they will take the rest of the corpus in interpretation, because when Jeremy Irons does Generic Evil Overlord, he does it very, very, veryveryvery badly.)

Or sometimes he does it very, very well. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110357/) It's the directing.

True, though I submit that Scar was also much better-written than... I don't even remember the name of the Generic Evil Overlord.

Without even clicking, I assume your link was to the IMDB entry for the D&D movie. Irons's character was named Profion.

Meh. I'll get excited when they start doing books I liked more. Though I like Hogfather, and it wasn't bad.

Reading the synopsis though that's about the only casting they got right. Sir David Jason is cool and all, but Rincewind should be a fairly young man if I remember correctly.

The casting seems a bit odd. I'm still at odd with Sean Austin as Twoflower. It does seem like it would be a bit better than the other adaptations. The Official site can be found here

Yeah, its nice they do a good job casting a character who will likely have about a minute of screen time. But miscast the TWO MAIN CHARACTERS. I mean I'll end up watching it at some point. Probably. But I'm still disapointed...

I think so, too. Trouble is, I think that if they did that in a fantasy movie, they'd be fighting tooth and nail to overcome the "young person who is incompetent but will go on to greatness at whatever they're incompetent at"[1] expectation. And I'm not sure they could do that--it's locked so hard into the genre for movies.

[1] Rincewind doesn't do this. Schmendrick did this. But Rincewind's incompetence at magic is a deep and through-going truth. He's hella good at screaming and running, though.

It is.

OTOH, I remain gently hopeful. Perhaps it will not be too bad.

(Also, I am pleased to see that they have the luggage on the character listing.)
