The Queensland government has endorsed voluntary chemical castration for sex offenders among other measures to strengthen its laws.

Corrective Services Minister Judy Spence said the treatment would be carried out only when an offender agreed, and the treating psychiatrist recommended it.

=========================================

Of course, it's voluntary - and if you do not volunteer, they do not release you from jail, despite having completed your full sentence.

Does nobody in Corrective Services see a *problem* with this?

The world just needs to hire me to be a consultant.

"Power Dynamic: The definition thereof, and why it makes "voluntary" meaningless."

That is *very* disturbing.

...well. Thank you, supposedly left-leaning Labor party.

"SAAAAAAAAAVE THE CHIIIIILLLLDRUUUUUUUUN!" is the mating call of a great many left-wing politicians.

It's just as much bullshit as the "You're making the baby Jesus Cry!" cry of the right-wing politicians, and it results in the same kind of practices.

The notion of "consent" is meaningless here.

Also, don't they get that they're violating the prisoners' rights by doing this?

Y'know, I think this sounds more disturbing because it's unusual, sort of like the Michael Fay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_P._Fay) case.

and if you do not volunteer, they do not release you from jail, despite having completed your full sentence.

Since one of those 'other measures' you mentioned was extending 'indefinite sentences' to crimes that currently carry a 10-year maximum penalty, it looks more like this would be an option for those offenders sentenced indefinitely to look better on a case review.

Yeah, save the kiddies.

Although, not too long ago we had a case of a serial rapist who REQUESTED castration of one form or another, said he would rape again and again otherwise, and was refused it (violation of rights of some sort). Out on probation, as I recall.

Legals systems: gotta hate 'em.

"... to allow them perhaps to get out of prison once they've served their full prison sentence."
...as opposed to what?
The report also endorsed Queensland's methods of dealing with released offenders, such as housing them on prison grounds, having authorities determine whether they can drink alcohol, and releasing information on them to neighbours and employers.
And so, by "released," you mean "not released".

This kind of stuff scares me way more than your spiders and mantises, weasel.

Well, if that's the priority, fuck this pussyfooting around then... KILL 'EM! Cheaper that way anyhow. Wait, make 'em dig their own graves first!

What was that about a slippery slope? Where?

No they don't - which is why "Corrective Services" is the most horrendous twisting of the language I have seen for a long time

Problem is then instead of a rape victem, you have a murder victim.
