Darn, I was thinking it had to be Ohio.
Poor Fox, probably had rabies.

Which makes you feel for the woman - first savaged in the leg, then shot by her husband, then spending a week in limbo not knowing, and still probably having to go through the rabies treatment. (Although I believe that's gotten better than it used to be, but still.)

Unless they just go ahead and do the treatment before they know, which they might, I am not a doctor.

Seriously, I mean talk about adding insult to injury!
I would imagine, based on the circumstances,- that they'd go ahead and get that treatment started. Foxes don't usually attack a human like that unless there is something wrong or that it's clearly defending. There was no mention of kits, so I'm betting on sick...

If they aren't sure, they err on the side of giving you 6 needles in your butt. You need to get the treatment within about 6 days of exposure, which is why sometimes they just go ahead and treat you.

Which is an improvement - it used to be a course of (IIRC) 40, and through the abdominal wall (shudder).

I figured they probably would go ahead and treat, but wasn't at all sure. And yeah, I remembered that at one point the treatment was Seriously Horrible Number of Shots in tummy, which had been lowered to just Too Many Shots in a less-owy spot, but couldn't remember details.

Also is there any chance of the treatment failing? Cause if there's even a tiny chance, that's still gotta suck, waiting to see if the fox is rabid and then, if it is (which I agree it probably is) waiting to see...

This one involves guns, so I'm guessing Florida.

(checks) I'm on a roll!

I guess the other one involved a gun as well, but that guy was robbing a bank, not shooting his wife by accident. The idea of shooting at something on your wife's leg just has a kind of southern flair.
