Further proof that metal is, by and large, a conservative genre. The cry of despair of the Disenfranchised White Male.

To be fair, what they are actually saying is "We needed the money up front, and are not metal."

AC/DC and GNR aren't metal. They're rock.

They're not even rock. Rock implies an ability to rebel against the failing status quo, not to make laughable attempts to shore it up.

"Classic Rock".

We're in a bit of a transition phase now, though, as hiphop starts to displace classic rock as your reliable indicator of poor life skills and decision making.

Which provides an amusing dichomatically-imparted twang of irony to "To Those About To Rock (We Salute You)" - because they sure aren't about to rock, nor will they rock anyone.

I would go so far as to say that their false teeth are carved from wood and they are suffering from osteoporosis, so far removed from any mineral are they.

Heh.

I don't know how old you are - I was born in 1980 - but I suspect that when GnR and ACDC came out, they were considered "heavy metal" - particularly GnR. But yeah, now I'd have to call them hard rock.

Classic rock I still consider to be Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, et al. Or is that oldies now? And if so, then what is Buddy Holly and Elvis?

Well, all they are now is rich old dudes hanging on to whatever they had in the 80's. But what I was talking about is what they were back in the day, the shit they're still trying to milk.

They need the milk because milk has calcium, a mineral - and minerals they are sorely lacking in, for they are not rock. QED

Chinese Democracy, produced by Wallmart in the People's Republic of China where saying the _word_ might get you "misplaced".

These comments are reminding me of an interview i saw with Warrent (of the 'she's my cherry pie' fame).
The lead singer looked straight into camera and said:
"Yes. it was us. WE killed rock and roll".

AC/DC were awesome.

Way, way, way back when.

But they only ever really had, like, three songs, and they just kept making up new verses and rerecording them.

I'd buy a second tattoo as a confirmation, for sure, but there's too little intersection between the single-tat set and the classic-rock+hiphop segment of the underclass.

Well, yeah, but by the time GnR came along you were starting to get your split between hair metal and thrash, and they were kind of right on the line. It's an open question whether touring with Metallica in 1992 improved their metal cred, or diminished Metallica's.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I think I was still in COLLEGE when that album was first announced.

Since I don't shop at Wal-Mart (there aren't any in Seattle) I guess I won't be getting either of these.

I've long since ceased giving a shit what that band (or whatever's left of it) does.
