Not that I'm planning on flying any time soon, but I think if I was, I would try and get an empty casing of some expensive looking piece of electronics to put in my luggage, and stuff a note in the battery area saying "Bet you thought you were going to sell this, you goddamned thief."

From the article:
Uselding said the TSA worked closely with homeland security investigators to bring the charges against Brown. She also said that his crimes were rare and that less than 300 TSA employees have been terminated for theft.

So, let's review: since the founding of the TSA in November 2001, there has been an average of less than 42 terminations per year. That were due to traceable, culpable theft. There are possibly more thefts that were not traceable or culpable.

That means there's about 40 people whose integrity has been compromised ... that we know about. Heckuva job on that war on terror, eh?

"Only" 300 TSA screeners fired for theft.

43,000 screeners employed.

That's 0.7%.

7 Million airline departures every year in the US, average planeload at about 100.

That's 16,280 passengers per screener.

That's 4.884 million passengers screened by agents *caught* stealing.
