Guess the state!
Oct. 18th, 2008 10:11 amRepublican supporter hangs "Hallowe'en ghost" labelled "Obama" and "Hussein" from tree in his yard, right over his McCain sign.
Bonus points: when asked, he says that yes, it's racial. He says that America is a nation of white christians and only white christians should be in power, and that Obama is, by definition, not a "full-blooded American".

Date: 2008-10-18 03:25 pm (UTC)Apparently the homeowner who put it up was 'inspired' by the McCain as KKK member idiocy from NJ.
Which leaves us the lovely question of how, in the next two+ weeks the country will further dscend into retardation.

Protected Speech vs. Hate Speech. Fun Fun Fun.

Date: 2008-10-18 03:30 pm (UTC)Obviously there's the 1st amendment issue, but in theory if local authorities hear about it before it becomes news they can coax the guy in to taking it down. Now that he's getting his 15 minutes of fame? No way he takes it down without a court order.
Yay freedom!

Date: 2008-10-18 03:55 pm (UTC)Plus, i think it can have an effect like xkcd's Youtube Commment Reader; some people who are racists see morons like this and will wonder if they'll be seen as that stupid.

Date: 2008-10-18 03:57 pm (UTC)And most people who are racist, likely don`t think they`re racist. That`s how you get statements like `Stereotypes are stereotypes because they`re true.` Add in a heaping helping of denial, and the prospects for sudden self-awareness become even dimmer.

Date: 2008-10-19 05:43 am (UTC)That's why the first amendment rocks.
Because while it gives assholes the right to standup and say assholic things, it gives us the right to hold up a sign that says 'You Sir, Are an Asshole'.
Actually the one thing I find interesting is, other than the fact that the PR would suck, I always wonder why some of these campaigns don't counter-attack the republicans where it counts. Libel and Slander are fun fun fun. I mostly think it's because it appears vindictive to file lawsuits against fucktards for being fucktards... but I haven't look too hard to see if there are precedents protecting particularly fucktardish accusations.
