Trick question. I was going to guess Florida.

Then again, is this presidential, or full ballot? I don't know everyone I voted for (by name anymore). it was a long ballot.

But, to be fair, that's about the same percentage of Americans who don't know when the 4th of July happens this year.

Since the Obama and McCain vote in Florida added up to 94%, I have no trouble believing that they lumped MYOFB in with the remaining 6%. (The same is true of Ohio, if you factor in the extra 5% who evidently said they had voted for someone other than those two.) I would read it as the pollster doesn't know, not that the pollee doesn't know.

In the meantime, the 20+% lead for Obama in Ohio: O.O ?

I would read it as "Well I pushed the button for X Candidate, but I don't really know who I voted for."

In that case, I'm going to go with "The United..." for my answer to guessing the state.

As of last week (http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/10/obama-dominating-among-early-voters-in.html#comments), early voting is heavily leaning towards Obama. There's a chance of a big surprise in Georgia. Some of it is due to spectacular African-American turnout (http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/10/harbinger.html).

between 3 and 6 percent of the sample could be lying to pollsters.

that's not a big number of "I don't know" responses.

Could be a bogus statistic too . . . from people fed up with constant visits from door-to-door pollsters.

I voted last week and since that day at least five aggressive pollsters have rung my doorbell - usually about 10 minutes after I get my son to bed for a nap - and bugged me to tell them my party affiliation, for whom I voted, etc. This with a not-so-subtle sign in the door asking that they leave me alone.

Been telling them to get the hell off my lawn . . . but tempting to say I "forgot."

Ah - there's the door now!
