Any utterance of "pro-abortion" makes me want to simultaneously vomit and throw things. Like people are lining up for them like they are free chocolate bars or something. Like Obama supporters are standing outside clinics with pompoms. These people have no clue.
yeah.. and i say any religious faction that tries to influence politics should no longer have any tax breaks or any other rights and protections as a religious institution...
Did he fail seminary? Ferendae sententiae excommunications can only be done before a Church court, which he himself does not constitute. (Latae sententiae excommunications are automatic and he has no say in them.)
I know this and I told the Catholic Church to get fucked when I was in sixth grade, jeez.
"I don't understand anyone who would call themselves a Christian, let alone a Catholic, and could vote for someone who's a pro-abortion candidate," said Ted Kelly, 64, who volunteers his time as lector for the church. "You're talking about the murder of innocent beings."
Which doesn't bother them when voting for the pro-war candidate whilst following a guy known as the Prince of Peace. Innocent Iraqis and Afghanis apparently don't matter to Jesus.
Besides, innocent? Isn't everyone tagged with Original Sin? Or is that it? Life begins and there's no Original Sin in utero, but once you're out, tag you're it?
Making extra loaves and fishes for people is a beautiful thing when you can do it with magic, not so much when you actually have to give money to feed those shiftless layabout lazy no-good welfare scum.
Read the article. He's not excommunicating people, he's just declaring that voting for Obama is a mortal sin and that people should confess it and do penance before receiving the Holy Communion again.
Ah, so he's just publicizing latae sententiae excommunication. I'm assuming his parishioners will ignore him the way most American Catholics ignore the Church on anything important.
There are some really decent priests I've talked to whose view on the subject is thus: Vote for the person whose view for the [country/town/school/state] is closest to what you think God would want (gives a lot of leeway, really, since it's your feelings on it). As long as you're voting the pro-choice candidate for his/her social programs, anti-war policies, etc, and not for the pro-choice stance specifically, it's A-OK.
Of course if you ARE voting for the pro-choice stance specifically (I won't deny it factors in, for me), there's no denying it contradicts the Catechism but that's what Reconciliation is for.
Oh, my rant went totally how technically almost everyone is pro-life, by definition, and pro-abortion is NOT pro-choice because they would want to FORCE abortions (and I know some of those people exist). I also went into why the women's rights movement sought the right in the first place and if that right were taken away should we also take away other rights that were given at that time. I also went into asking who are we to take away a right that has been given. Also how dangerous it can destroy a woman physically, emotionally and psychologically, not to mention the trauma a child undergoes who is unwanted. etc etc.
I also stated that I am pro-choice about abortion as I'm pro-chioce about religion: it's up to the individual faced with the decision to choose which way they want to go. It is NOT my decision to FORCE upon anyone.
