Cool article, but not enough detail to really tell what's going on... Sounds to me like they programmed a computer with "Here's a but load of data, here's how you can put together conditions to make predictions and here's how you test them, now do that lots of times."

I wouldn't call that totally independent, although it's closer than anything else I've seen yet
