While I was working at the wildlife sanctuary, a raccoon got into our lioness's cage. The resulting spectacle was primal and gruesome demonstration of the food change and the predator's drive to kill.
...thankfully the busload of senior citizens that were viewing her at the time were very understanding.
Dopey, back curved, eyes half closed, hair standing on end -- that's a dying rodent, perhaps of hunger, probably of thirst. I expect that it has been abandoned and that it has left the nest to forage for food in a last ditch attempt at survival.
