http://www.peoplepets.com/news/strange/cute-and-bambi-become-celebrities-in-the-philippines/1 has as much detail as I've seen from any site. Which is to say, someone sent this photo around a whole bunch of news sites. The best comment thread I've seen (http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/F39A2496-0350-4246-9888-36AB7E6EFB54/) suggests that it's a fake, on the grounds that dogs with two legs don't (can't, even) walk like that.
Wellll, the outlines on the dogs look unnaturally sharp (like they weren't there in the original image) and I think the hind legs are too far back to support the body in the air like that without the mutts tipping forward.
Especially since the one on the right seems to be wagging his tail or at least moving it around, which you'd think would throw his balance completely the hell off.
So yeah, while I normally don't cry "Shop! Shop!" at every weird photo, I'd probably go with that on this one.
You're probably right. It's probably a fake. It certainly wouldn't be hard to do.
But in the interests of mindless internet wankery, Faith the two legged dog was trained by her humans to stand up straight. A dog's pelvic girdle really isn't positioned right to make walking upright all that comfortable, though. While Faith can do it and is probably used to it by now, *maybe* these dogs found it more comfortable to hold themselves horizontally with their back and abdominal muscles. Try walking around yourself for a bit with your body pitched forward horizontally. It isn't all that hard, and you don't tip over. Your core muscles keep you solid.
I just saw this picture on the MSNBC news website! According to them: "Cute and Bambi, street vendor Lope Tulipas's two pet dogs, hop in a street in suburban Quezon City, Philippines. They were both born with only two legs and have been tagged by passersby as 'dog-kangaroos' because of their resemblance to the hopping of the two-legged Australian animal."
Walking while tipped forward, the only way you don't fall over is still if your feet are under your center of gravity. The dogs in question, not so much with the paws under CoG.
