Interestingly enough, the calendar is explicitly counting down to the beginning of the ... fourth sun I think? This, the third (if I'm remembering correctly) will end in either fire, flood, earthquake or rain of jaguars. Quetzlcoatl hands over to Tezcatlipoca at this time, just as the latter handed over to the former last time a sun ended.
The world will continue to exist afterwards though, just, different. Which I suppose is inevitable if there is, in fact, a rain of jaguars.
