Generally, "security by obscurity" doesn't work when the secure asset is drawing attention to itself... with Hellfire missiles, for instance.

-- Steve can't believe that the Pentagon, of all people, didn't think others would be able to intercept an unencrypted video signal. (I think they're calling it "TV" now, General.)

Oh for fuck's sake. Amateur-hour bullshit. This is the sort of thing that makes me hope John Robb is right and the era of massive states is over.

The Pentagon didn't build this. General Atomix built the Predator on its own dime and then presented it to the DoD as a finished product.

Wow. My wireless router has better security than these things it seems. Amusing!

Surely - as is the argument with Gary McKinnon - if there is no security then there is no hacking?

An open signal is not hackable. There's nothing to hack. It's a bit bloody stupid complaining that people are looking in through your very big, brightly lit open window.

Hence why "hacked" is in quotes.

I quite like Danish law - case law there holds that breaking ineffectual DRM is by definition not a crime, and that the definition of "ineffectual" is "can be broken".

*nods* I am quite definitely agreeing with you.
Clearly the Danes [much like their Norwegian friends] are on to something with this whole 'sensible' lark

this whole new cost saving approach - spend billions on hardwear, then don't secure it - is really getting quite funny.
