But it takes them a long time (longer if this is the 3rd time in a row you've flipped them over to watch them flip back), and once they get too tired, they can't do it and just lie there looking at you with betrayal in their little turtle face.

er... I guess I'm talking about turtles (specifically red eared sliders), not tortoises. But I imagine the case is similar.

Actually, I was quite an empathic little tyke, and once mom explained to me that he wasn't having as much fun as I was -in fact it was uncomfortable for him to be on his back!- I think I cried for an hour and yelled at her for not telling me earlier.
