Man, Jim Butcher and Anton Chekov would have been *great* buddies.

But, really, you'd think it wouldn't have taken me until early in Book 3 to realise that "Tavi" is a shortened form of "Octavius".

(at the same time, you know that the guy whose alias is "Scipio" when dealing with a pseudoRoman legion is *totally* winding up in command. It's inevitable. That one, at least, wasn't a surprise.)

Dude I didn't catch the Lost Roman Legion bit until book 2 or 3 and I had to have someone point out the Pokemon connection...

I heard "Butcher was challenged to write a Romans + Pokemon book and have it not suck" as the premise that made me buy the first one.

Yeah, I totally figured out who basically Tavi was (or at least suspected), but I didn't even twig onto what "Tavi" stood for until it was explicitly stated.

They haven't explicitly said it yet. I've just figured it out and it's *too perfect* to not be true.

There's a Pokemon connection? I had no idea.

Honestly, I thought it had more of a Mercedes Lackey spin. But I've also never watched or played Pokemon.

Oops, sorry then, I couldn't remember which book had the Reveal. I guess what I said was slightly spoilery then!

Meh. Like I said, I figured out that "Tavi" was short for "Octavius" shortly into book 3, and started kicking myself for not seeing it sooner. I haven't finished book 3 yet, and they still haven't revealed it, but I was absolutely certain I was right *before* your comment.

I, on the other hand, was thinking "OMG COULD YOU BE ANY MORE ANVILICIOUS" by the end of the first book.

As folks have pointed out to me, subtle name generation is not something Butcher does.

Once it was pointed out to me it really stuck out...

I'm not sure "anvilicious" is exactly the right word since the anvil took another full book and a bit to hit me, but yes. Once you notice, it's facepalm time.
