The better video shows clearly that they're unarmed. Very nice.
The comments on that site come in three varieties: "Holy shit, that's disgusting, they're obviously not hostile" "We don't know that that WASN'T a gun, but shooting the wounded guy is definitely a war crime even if the pilots were right about everything else" and "Revenge for 9/11! USA! USA! Go defend your home yourselves, hippies!"
The guy on the tractor at the beginning was clearly not involved, even if the other two were. The one guy throws something long into the field in the beginning, but throughout the video, none of them seem concerned about the helicopter, even after the first bursts miss. It's only after the first guy gets killed that they star painicking.
As for the comments, that's pretty much the whole issue in a nutshell.
The note that Apaches are A) quiet, B) pretty high up, from the angle, and C) have an effective range of about 2 miles rings pretty true.
Besides, this is Iraq. The sound of explosions in the distance isn't enough to make the natives jump, any more, according to the natives. Why would they panic at a far-off chaingun?
