FFS, if you're going to post an inline graphic from a webcomic, ignoring any attempts the author may have made to be paid for his work, could you at least post the entire thing, including the title text which is at the very least a a secondary punchline?

Ryan North is a remote personal acquaintance - we went to school together, I've spoken to him on polite terms in person at least twice since then - and unless I'm completely screwing up my recollection, his last expressed preference was "rehost and link to avoid sucking bandwith by hotlinking, and let people click through to the site", which is exactly what I just did.

But I've gone back and added the Title text, too.

OH HAI! I just double-checked, and, I quote: "Man, comics are meant for sharing! TOTALLY GO FOR IT. You don't need permission to post the comics on your site or anything like that."

Does that make you feel better?

I suppose I was trying to say two things in the one sentence, which never ends well.

I'm glad that Ryan North is happy at people hotlinking to his comics, and mirroring if necessary.

I still feel that if you're going to effectively cut and paste from the world-wide-web, you should cut and paste accurately, e.g. include the title text.

I'm glad that you've since corrected this, and I have no further complaints.

Or to summarise even further, I wasn't saying so much "OMG you're ripping off the creator of this important artistic work" as "Hey, howabout you paste all of the punchlines?"

I think he still needs to ask permission from Peter North.
