That totally makes sense.

If you're an idiot.

The ATF has ruled that Registered Medical Marijuana users are not to be sold guns. Not holding my breath for NRA lawyers to offer help on that one.

If the hysteria dies down, the NRA's rank and file won't want to pay their activists as much, so those activists (elected officers, etc.) need to keep the tension ratcheted, I s'pose.

You know I likes my guns. And I'm an NRA member. And I appreciate the work they do; if it weren't for them, we wouldn't have saved nearly so much of our right to keep and bear arms as we have.

But it's impossible to pretend their fundraising rhetoric is anything but ridiculous sometimes. It's SOP for civil rights groups (I don't go a week without one of the local liberal politicians' newsletters landing in my inbox with a headline screaming ANTI-CHOICE GOP WANTS TO OUTLAW WOMEN'S HEALTH!), but that doesn't make it less embarrassing when a group I like does it.

I guess it's harder in modern politics to sell "A second Obama term may get the chance to appoint Supreme Court justices whose hostility to the Second Amendment will shift the balance on the court away from the Heller majority that's currently willing to uphold the right" than "OBAMA GUN BAN COMING!"
