The only thing shocking about this is my complete lack of surprise. I think many people are numb to it by now. Abuse within the church is systemic and institutionalized and is not going to change until the structure of the church changes.
There are two billion Christians in the world, over half of them Catholics. Let's call it a billion. If a tenth of a percent of them were protesting their priests fucking kids, there would be a million Catholics making noise about this. But there isn't. The people protesting at Penn State are more vocal... but then, they're protesting Joe Paterno's firing, not really the kid fucking. Oh well.
