While I am willing to feel a small pang for the plight of the guinea worm, and hope they freeze a bunch of them or something, I can't say that I'll be sorry to see it go.

Sadly, the WHO are not as optimistic as Scientific American (http://www.who.int/dracunculiasis/en/). They count 143 cases reported so far this year (most in South Sudan), a drop of around 63% from the same period last year. Still, it's excellent progress.
