umm ... that's a great offer, but what the hell do I do with this garbage file they gave me to download. .aax? It doesn't seem to be an mp3 file. Changing the extension does no good. What sort of creature is that for?

"Audible Enhanced Audiobook".

Go back to the website, set your preferred download type to "4" which is MP3, and try again. Alternately, install their crapware and play it there, or their plugin to Apple Crapware and play it there.

Or give up on it as a pain in the ass bad deal all around because they're evil fuckwits who don't appear to want me to play their book, which is the stage I'm at.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that by user name, they really meant the email address associated with my Amazon account, not my Amazon user name that appears in the user name field on Audible.

Weird, I didn't have any problem at all with it. But maybe that's because I'm already an Apple crapwit.

It's just the need for custom software that annoys me. "MP3" is one of the download options, and yet they won't just give you an MP3 to do what you want.

Yeah, that is irritating. Standard formats should be, y'know, standard.
