Some of my friends went down to the courthouse to hand out flowers to people in line and serenade them with "Going to the Chapel". It was pretty awesome.

I volunteered down there from 5:30am to 1:30. It was so much fun taking pictures of couples with their new marriage licenses!

Oh, hey. It stands to reason that they'd be first in line. Awesome for them, and awesome for them all.

I had intended to go and cheer, but am massively sleep-deprived and Too Much to Do, so...watched it on the Internet via friends' status updates and live coverage.

There are a number of articles on The Slog, but this one has one of my favorite touches:

http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2012/12/05/responding-to-shortage-judges-will-open-courtrooms-on-sunday-to-marry-gay-couples

The demand is so large that the county courts are opening at midnight on Sunday, the first moment of eligibility (WA requires three day waiting period after getting a license). The first judge to perform marriages for gay and lesbian couples... is Mary Yu, who is herself a lesbian and engaged.
