, where I once again I suggest you subscribe to the RSS feed and not read the comments. There's none on this post, yet, but it mentions "Africa" so history shows the assholes will soon be out in force.

Wow, what is up with my brain today? I spent a good 20 seconds staring at this as "random assortment of shapes becomes rhinocerous stabbing a guy with it's horn" before realising a) no, elephant and b) they were letters.

Also I've heard a lot that African people are kinda sick of being represented by huts and savannah animals, as opposed to the huge cities, culture, etc of the continent. Given that the sculptor says he's Italian (and assuming here he's not of African descent), I'm kinda left with a bad taste in my mouth from this.

One reply seems to sum this up way better than I'm managing:

LetsGetRamblin: "Whenever Africa is generalized, I say the same thing. In this case, I am glad that the OP loves Africa, and he/she surely wasn't trying to do anything negative towards it. But I'm just saying, Africa is a continent. A gigantic, diverse-in-many-ways continent. If you made one of these with, say, a German guy with a beer to celebrate your love of Octoberfest, would you spell "Europe"? No, you'd spell "Germany." If you're in the mood for burritos, would you say "let's go get some North American food"? No, you'd say Mexican food. So why does everybody think of Africa as this one jungle with elephants and lions and grass huts and tribal warriors? This is Africa. So is this. So is this. So is this. And yes, of course, so is [insert your favorite giraffe pic here]. Again, fine work by OP. But pick a country, at least! (winky face)."
