Yes.

It says
"A coffee" - 7 Euro
"A coffee. please" - 4.25 Euro
"Hi, I'd like a coffee, please" - 1.40 Euro.

Indeed!

French café charges extra for rudeness | The Local -- [The owners of a café in the south of France have struck a blow for good old-fashioned French politeness, with a sign charging extra for customers who forget their manners while ordering their coffee.]

Would be interesting to see if they also only charge the "polite" fee if one is polite but tries with English (or German) first..

Interviews with them have them admitting that despite having this on the sign, they don't ever charge more. They're not even sure if charging more would be legal. They just like having it on the sign because it makes a point and it does help.

Depends -- are we talking "ugly American" or "trying politely"? :)

I'm middle-European, so quite probably not "ugly American".

Which is, of course, absolutely cool.

(Do you have a link to that interview?)
