Dec. 12th, 2013 10:20 pmMormons announce that the traditional Mormon objection to non-white people is based on racism, and that they will stop it at some unspecified point in the future, and they expect cookies.
Also:
In the past, the LDS Church has said history isn’t clear on why blacks were banned from its all-male priesthood for more than a century.
No, that's a lie. The LDS Church has been VERY clear on why non-white people are less-than-human: Because God said so, and Laman And Lemuel, and if non-white people had REALLY not been inherently sinful they would have been magically made white by Mormon Jesus, the way all repentent non-white people WERE made white.
The LDS Church have maintained, after being forced to abandon explicit white supremacy to maintain their tax-exempt status, that they "don't know" why God insisted that non-white people were not people, but that God ordained that as fact and then *changed his mind* when "the time was right" despite being omnipotently able to enforce "the time is right" at any time he chose.

Date: 2013-12-13 04:16 am (UTC)However, I'm not opposed to discussing with a couple of ground rules:
1) Leave name calling and outright hostility out of it. I am not interested in the same flavor of conversation we've had in the past. No matter how right you may be, anger and hostility bring nothing extra to the table if the truth is actually on your side of things (and they certainly bring nothing extra if you're wrong, either).
2) I grew up in my faith, I know what we teach, and I can't always quote sources. To you, this is an academic exercise, and so you've done your research, To me, this is life, and I don't need to live my life quoting sources. I am totally happy to learn from someone else, and this was actually a pretty cool story that I was unaware of, so I'm already learning new things, but I am not interested in having an academic argument. We share our sides, learn from each other, and move on.
If you're not down with both of these, then I will take what I've learned already & move on, and let you do the same with no hard feelings on my end.
Oh, ground rule #3: Be patient. I really am super busy, which is one reason I haven't bothered updating my blog in forEVAH.
Side note: How the heck are ya? :) I've been playing Arkham City and Borderlands 2 recently and really enjoying them. Also, Marvel Avengers Alliance - browser game which combines the Pokemon attitude of "Gotta Catch 'Em All!" into a superhero combat game. The FB version is worse than the straight Playdom version from what I understand. Good times, though. Oh, also Echo Bazaar/Fallen London, another browser game that is super stylish with truly superb writing.
I don't have the kind of time to play that I used to, but every now and again, I'm able to squeeze in some fun times. :)
